New Office and Philly finally won

There is another new Office tonight. Hopefully it will be better than the recent episodes; I have been pretty dissapointed with the episodes this season. The Ethics episode was really bad  I thought, as well as the crime aid one. the baby shower one had mild humor, but I am hoping that the Office gets back to its glory days from season 2 and 3. This week’s episode, which starts in under an hour, is supposed to be really funny so I am excited for that. Apparently, Holly is transferred to another branch, forcing Michael and Holly to end their very bizarre relationship.

On another note, the Philadelphia Phillies finally won the World Series, bringing the city of brotherly love its first major sports championship in exacttly 100 years. The Phillies outplayed the Rays in almost all respects, but the dominant factor was the bullpen of the Phillies. The Rays bats were shut down through out almost the entire series, which is a difficult feat. I thought it was a great series, albeit a little tedious because of the rain delay. Good job phillies. Congrats

Titans: Are They That Good?

The Titans beat the Colts tonight with a late surge to improve to 7-0 and the league’s only undefeated team. I never thought the Titans would be this good. I mean I knew Vince Young was a dead weight for Tennessee, but I didn’t think they would be this good, especially now that Kerry Collins is quarterback. Anyway, the Titans beat the Colts tonight 31-21. Lendale White had two touchdowns for the Titans and Chris Hope had two interceptions off Peyton Manning. Speaking of the older Manning, what is wrong with him this year? I cannot remember ever having seen Peyton Manning look so vulnerable. Perhaps it is because they have a younger offensive line and they are out of sync, but even then, I have seen him make a lot of poor decisions that cannot be blamed on an offensive line. The NFL just isnt as fun to watch this year, the Patriots are weak without Brady, the Colts have a losing record for the first time in years, the Cowboys are staggering, and the Titans are the best team?? I find myself losing interest in the NFL with each passing week. Hopefully Tom Brady comes back miraculously and saves the Patriots, and the league. Hopefully by tomorrow I will be able to publish the next part of my collisiions story….I am having computer problems

World Series Game 4

Wow, who knew the Phillies actually had it in them. Even though I wanted them to win the series, I figured, along with most of America, that they couldn’t. So far though, Philadelphia has definitely proved me wrong. They won game 4 today in VERY convincing fashion. They annihilated tampa bay 10-2. Andy Sonnanstine had a horrible outing for Tampa, but its not like he had much run support from the offense. Where are the powerful bats that plagued the Red Sox in the ALCS? I used to cry every time Upton, Pena, or Longoria came to bat, anticipating another booming homer. Now, they are being shut down easily. And its not like the Phillies pitching is much better than the Red Sox…Jon Lester? Daisuke Matsuzaka? Josh Beckett? All good pitchers. Why couldn’t the Rays go in a hitting slump during the AlCS.

Regardless, congrats to the Phillies on winning game 4 in a blowout. One game left and the Rays miracle season will finally be over. Go Phillies.

this weekend in sports

This weekend has been excellent, as far as sports goes. The Phillies beat the Rays in game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the World Series. For those of you that missed the game, it was a great game. It was close the entire game, until literally the last inning. It was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the ninth. The Rays pitching however seemed to fall apart when it was needed most. Eric Bruntlett got to first on a HBP and then Victornino walked, followed by Dobbs who also walked. The bases were loaded without a single hit, or an out. The hero of the game of was Carlos Ruiz who singled to drive in Bruntlett and win the game. The Phillies and Rays are playing again right now as I type, so I cannot give a review of that game (it is 0-0).

The other good part of this weekend was the Patriot’s victory over the Rams. The Patriots have obviously been crippled by the loss of their star QB Tom Brady who was sidelined for the season after a “legal” (but cheap) hit by Bernard Pollard in week 1. Since then, the Patriots have been dealing with inconsistency in the quarterback position, which was filled by Matt Cassel. However, I think that in the past few weeks Cassel has stepped up and proven himself capable of at least being in the same room as Brady’s shoes, though he comes nowhere near close to filling them. The Patriots won today with a touchdown reception by Faulk with 3 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Kevin Faulk has always been a clutch player for the Pats, and I am glad they have kept him on. This is all I have to say for now. Tomorrow I will post part 3 of my story and talk about game 4 of the world series.

Collisions cont’d: Part two

Anthony, or Ant as most called him, was in his third year at Morningside High. Like any other student there, he was just biding his time until he could get out of school and live his life. He didn’t have a set plan for after high school, but he knew it must be better than what happened at Morningside. Like every day at lunch, Ant was sitting with his friends at the center table. All of his friends were black, which was typical in his community. That was the way it was in Inglewood, people stuck together. There were generally two groups: the blacks, and the Hispanics. Ant didn’t necessarily hate other races, but all of his friends seemed to so he had no choice but to go along with the pressure. So, a fight was started between the two groups, he had no choice but to get involved, and that was precisely what was about to happen. A new student, from Mexico, was nervously making his way across the cafeteria when he accidentally stepped on Ant’s friend, Jamal’s, shoe.
“Watch where you’re going, b*tch!” Jamal yelled as he struck the terrified new student. Within half a second, Hispanic students across the cafeteria jumped up, ready for action, for they too felt a loyalty to stick together, and fight together. As soon as the Hispanic students jumped to their feet, the black students leapt up as well, and within seconds the cafeteria was filled with hundreds of students ready to fight at a moments notice. One of the larger Hispanic students came up and hit Jamal in the back of the head with a cafeteria tray. In an instant, the entire cafeteria erupted into a giant brawl. Black students attacked Hispanic students, whether or not they were involved in the incident at all, and Hispanic students did likewise. Ant had no choice but to jump in and tackle the kid who hit Jamal.

Collisions

This is a short story I wrote for a morality class in school. Enjoy. This is just the introduction, more will follow tomorrow.

For years, the largest minority group in the
United States of America had been the African-American population. Black people became accustomed to being the largest minority group in
America, almost to the extent that they were not much of a minority. However, over the past decade or so, an influx of Hispanic immigrants has arrived in
America. Millions of people have emigrated, legally and illegally, from places in Central and South America, especially
Mexico. Because of this sudden incursion of the Hispanic population, the African-American populace was replaced as the largest minority. The usurping of the position as the largest minority by the Hispanics caused tension across the nation, often resulting in violence and loss of life.

“Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!” the principal heard the students cry heartily, as yet again two separate groups of students broke out in a vicious fight. The groups were, of course, separated by race. One group was the black crowd, and the other group was the slightly larger Hispanic crowd. At
Morningside
High School in Inglewood, Los Angeles, and in hundreds of other high schools across
America, fights like these were becoming more and more common. The principal wondered what started the fight this time, if there was even a reason; most of these fights were started out of ignorance and fear. However, the reason was irrelevant; the outbreak of violence was the problem.

World Series Game 1 and such

I cannot possibly express in the confines of this blog how happy I am that the Rays lost today. I didn’t think that the Phillies had it in them, but I guess I was wrong (Thank God). I think the hero of the game was obviously Chase Utley on the Phillies. He hit a two run homer, got a stolen base (free tacos for everyone in America), and made key plays defensively. It was a close game but I think the fact that the Phillies won in Tampa proves that they can definitely win at home. My prediction, and I am hesitant to say this, is Phillies win in six games. I understand that the Rays are a deeper team, have better pitching, better baserunning, better defense, and better management, but I think the Phillies can pull this one out. The Phillies need their big names to step up (Ryan Howard needs to stop striking out) and they can bring a championship back to Philadelphia. Also, I will start posting parts of a ten page story I wrote for a morality class. I think its pretty good. So look for that tomorrow or sometime soon. Thanks.

The Office

Published by bostonpride under Uncategorized Edit This

I haven’t posted a blog in over a week, so forgive me if I’m a bit rusty. Today I realized is two days away from Thursday. What is the significance of that? Well Thursday is the day that my favorite television show is on, The Office. It seems that with The Office, you either love it, or you hate it. People either love the sarcastic and rude and awkward humor of the show or they don’t get it and they hate the show. Personally, I love the show.

Fairweather Fans

Published by bostonpride under Uncategorized Edit This

Obviously I have not posted a blog in a while. I have been extremely busy lately, but I felt I had to post a blog today for two reasons. The first reason being that I hope to get paid for doing this, and the second and most important reason being that Sunday was a tragic day for America. On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays (not Devil Rays) beat the mighty Boston Red Sox in the seventh game of the ALCS. Now a lot of people were happy, or acted happy, about this tragedy, but I do not understand why. How come all of a sudden every one in America is a Tampa fan? A team that can’t even get 20,000 people in attendance when they are in first place suddenly has millions of fans nationwide because they are in the playoffs? No. That is what we call a fairweather fan, or a bandwagon jumper. Personally, I hate fans like that. They always deny it, they always act like they know what they’re talking about, but truly they don’t.  A lot of people jumped on the Red Sox bandwagon last year after they won the world series. I have always been a Red Sox fan since I grew up there, and I personally find it insulting when people do that. It insults sports, the team, and the loyal fans when scum fans start showing up at games with brand new jerseys because the team is doing good. One time at a game I asked someone with a Red Sox jersey if they knew the first name of the player on the jersey (it was a Wily Mo Pena jersey believe it or not), and they said no. It astonishes me that people can act like fans when they clearly are not. Stay true to your home town and be a fan of your hometown team. Every team has its up and down. Oh and I hate the Rays and I hope they lose to the Phillies in the World Series, even though I am sure they won’t because the Phillies are pure garbage. The NL is like little league. Thanks for your time.

My First Blog, take two

Published by bostonpride under Uncategorized Edit This

I am not sure if my other posting worked, so I will give this another try…here it is

To start off, my blog is just going to be about whatever occurs to me at the time I am writing. It could be about my day, what is bothering me, politics, movie or book reviews, short stories, poems, etc.   For now, I will just start off with a little introduction, what I’m interested in, and just a little about me. My name is Josh. I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts and I lived there most of my life. For that reason, I am a HUGE Boston sports fan. I love the Patriots, the Celtics, and most of all the Red Sox. I moved to South Florida for a few years, before moving to  California where I now live and go to school.  I like to do average stuff; I go to school, hang out with friends, and play sports. I play all sports but as far as school goes I currently run on the Cross Country team and I am on the basketball team. That’s just a little bit about me, tomorrow I will try to add some more interesting things or what not. I am a little nervous now as I am losing my “blogging virginity”, but hopefully it will get better as it goes on.

Oh and for those curious why I picked the title, I am not really sure. I picked it I guess for the obvious fact that Barack Obama is a hot topic of conversation, and his middle name (most people don’t know) is Hussein. Also,  I think I heard something like that on the radio. Anyway, it sounded catchy to me at the time. Thanks for wasting your time reading my blog and I will try to do better tomorrow. Good night internet readers
